Razorfish Summer Internship

Razorfish: San Francisco and Portland!

Contact information:
http://www.razorfish.com/#/company/global-network/north-america/portland

Overview:
At Razorfish, we’re old school digital.

That’s because we’ve been doing interactive work for about 15 years. In fact, we were one of the first to animate a website on a Netscape browser. When everyone else started moving to digital, we were right there to greet them.

That’s where you come in. We’re looking for Art Director & Copywriter interns who live interactive, think for the web, and want to give their portfolios a digital edge. Here, you’ll work on live briefs with a great group of digital minds. We have a lot of exciting projects for Intel, Wells Fargo, PGE and other high profile clients that will look very good in your book. But more importantly, you’ll come out of here with sharp digital thinking and the experience of producing real interactive work.

Core Duties/Responsibilities:
We ARE NOT looking for a Photoshop Chimp for our internship program. What we want is a creative innovator. A designer whose work bleeds perfection. A writer of copy you remember the next week. An architect of the next generation of websites. A rethinker of same-old advertising. A visual storyteller.

A user of user generated content. A generator of user generated content. A music, film, design, art, and fashion hound who doesn’t care about trends for the sake of trends. A Gawkering, Flickring, Facebooking, Googling, MySpacing, YouTubing Adcritic.

Oh, and there may be some Photoshop work…

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

Some prior experience with Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, basic HTML, Quark Xpress or similar design tools are a plus

Must be able to organize, prioritize and manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment

Flexibility and responsiveness to customer and/or team needs, and ability to work in a team setting are a must.

We are hiring for several positions in both San Francisco & Portland. If you have what it takes to be an Art Director Intern or Copywriter Intern, apply to the specific location that interests you. If you’re ready to rock it old school on the digital dance floor, let’s see what you got.

This position is a 10 week full-time paid position, approximately 40 hrs/week.

GOOD magazine summer UI apprenticeships

alicia rosas, GD '10, is working for GOOD magazine in los angeles and let us know about this awesome opportunity in LA!

from alicia: "We're looking for 3 UI (user interface) Design Apprentices to design a platform and develop it with the engineering apprenticeship team this summer, from June to August. It's an amazing experience, especially as a student or recent graduate: apprentices will get to work on a project from research to final deliverable, and also get experience working alongside developers and the Product Team at GOOD. If anyone has questions about the apprenticeship program, I'd be happy to try and answer them as well. summer apprenticeship at GOOD magazine

Do you want to work at GOOD?

This past summer a former KCAI grad, Alicia Rosas, worked at GOOD magazine as a design apprentice (a fancy name for internship). She applied in May and the internship ran June – August.

http://www.good.is/about/jobs/product-engineering-apprenticeships

It was a very hands on experience in which she worked directly with developers and had full ownership over design responsibilities (incl. research, protoyping, wireframing, look/feel and brand specifications) in the creation of GOOD's mobile site.

Congrats to Alicia, because after the apprenticeship was over they offered her a full-time gig as UI designer and that's where she currently works.

Alicia says:
“if any KCAI students are interested in flying out to LA for a summer, I highly recommend it! The group I worked with was GOOD's first shot at the apprenticeship program, but they really liked it and seem to be on the look out to do it again in the future....
In case you were curious, everyone here really liked and responded to my degree project as well as the project we did for MX--so I'm really thankful for all the work we put into those semester long projects.”

design volunteer opportunity with phoenix family housing

from tanesh goshon at phoenix: "Phoenix Family Housing empowers people living in low-income housing communities with the on-site support they need to gain stability and achieve self-sufficiency.

"We would like a student who has experience in Graphic Design working with InDesign to become a possible volunteer for our organization. Here at Phoenix Family Housing we pride ourselves on treating our volunteers as staff members and having them work as a integral part of the team to help accomplish the mission.

"This would be a virtual opportunity and the volunteer would only need to meet with staff members once a month to design our monthly newsletter, help design marketing material and other duties as assigned. This is an unpaid position, however we will greatly appreciate the time and effort that will be put into this project."

new design blog from AIGA

Design Envy

"Design Envy is a daily blog featuring the best in design today as chosen by a new curator each week. AIGA, the professional association for design, selects the curators, who are encouraged to discover and share examples of design that’s so good, they wish they had done it themselves.

Ultimately, Design Envy aims to inspire and inform in equal measures—through strong use of imagery, compelling descriptions about why selections were made, and attributions given to the creative minds behind the work."

two socially minded design competitions

cause/affect
There are plenty of ways to make your mark as a designer. Some of us count our contribution by the number of awards they’ve won. Others like to check off the number of big named designers they know. But for a select group, making their mark means making a contribution — to their clients, to the design community, to those in greater need. The trouble is, doing work for good causes often slips under the radar. So we’ve come up with a way to help you make your mark — the cause/affect competition.
cause/affect is a biennial, international design competition that celebrates the work of designers and organizations who set out to positively impact our society. Deadline for submission is June 24, 2011.

aiga (re)design awards
All designers and creative professionals, art and design students, educators, and business and/or organizations of design throughout the world are encouraged to enter. Entrants need not be members of AIGA.

All design work entered in the competition should communicate the importance of social responsibility or sustainability for our planet. We are looking for excellence in design solutions that actively engage in enriching our lives. This could be, for example, raising awareness about a cause or condition, celebrating an arts institution or event, or even harnessing innovations in production and materials that are better for our environment. Contest begins June 15, 2011.

Alumni newsletter wins design award

"The fall issue of Alumni News, designed by Molly Hawthorne (’05 graphic design), has won an American Inhouse Design Award. The awards are given to recognize outstanding work by inhouse designers. It is a unique opportunity for inhouse design, marketing and communications departments — within corporations, nonprofits, publishers and media companies, associations, government, education and other institutions — to be recognized for their talent, for the special challenges they face and for their contributions to their businesses and institutions."

Congrats Molly!
