Graphic Design Internship

Description:As an integral part of the Kansas City Area Development Council’s marketing department, the graphic design intern works to create graphic elements and tools utilized by the KCADC team, and the top 250 companies in Kansas City. The graphic design intern will assist the creative services team with the creation of custom materials for print and online presentation.

Duties include:

• Assisting with web layout design
• Photo editing and retouching
• Creating custom designed documents for clients
• Supporting the design team with large projects

Length of Internship: Present through December 2014

Time Commitment: Full-Time

Compensation: Paid

Qualifications:Candidate must be pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in graphic design, or a related fine-arts field. In addition, the following attributes are essential:

• Hands on knowledge in designing with the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Ability to follow style guides, instructions and critique feedback.
• Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and complete multi­ple projects and assignments to meet deadlines.
• Attentive to detail and quality conscious.

Opportunity this Fall with The Lean Lab (Kansas City)

The Lean Lab acknowledges that K-12 education could be better. The Lean Lab acts as a creative laboratory where creative professionals, entrepreneurs, educators and community leaders can work together to build the future of education in Kansas City.  More formally, we offer an incubator fellowship program where professionals with early stage ideas join the fellowship to create innovative ventures that provide excellent educational opportunities for Kansas City youth.  As of now, we have six ventures in our lab, each spending the next academic year developing and piloting their initiatives.  These six ventures need design help to create polished materials that will take their venture to the next level and allow them to begin seeking funding/investment and impacting urban students of Kansas City.

Their ventures are as follows:

• Business Allied Scholars connects local businesses to urban youth talent for skill building and mentorship opportunities.
• Resilient Connections is an intrapreneural initiative of Truman Medical Center’s Trauma Sensitive Care Initiative and professional development toolkit equipping urban educators with the skills necessary to support students who have experienced significant instances of trauma. 
• Echo Grade is an app that motivates students through quick, meaningful, paperless feedback.
• ELL Teacher Archive is a local toolkit for teachers to transition ELL (English Language Learner) students into classrooms.
  
• My Sister-Girl, MySelf is a peer-to-peer mentoring program for adolescent girls of color.

What we need:

1.   Creative, mission driven, passionate and meticulous individuals looking to build out their graphic design portfolio. 

2.   logo design, media kits, video, templates, marketing materials, etc. 

3.   4 hours of work/week from October-June

In celebration of Fossil's 30th anniversary, they are sponsoring a design competition! Download the template, create your design, and upload it starting January 30th for a chance to win up to $5,000 in cash prizes. 

The theme for the Tin Design Contest is On the Open Road—think vintage automobiles, roadside diners, the sights of Route 66, or American travel from the 1950s and 1960s. Beginning January 30th, designers can visit www.fossiltincontest.com to upload their original artwork and create an iconic watch tin. Submissions will be judged on originality, creativity and representation of Fossil’s modern-vintage style. 

The Top 30 tin designs will be selected based on these judging criteria by a Fossil judging panel and will be posted in an online gallery for public voting.The Top 30 designs will also be produced into actual tins to be displayed at select Fossil stores and events. Five finalists will be chosen: one Grand Prize Winner will receive $5,000, two First Prize winners will receive $2,500, and two Second Prize winners will receive $1,000 each. 

Graphic Designer for Crystal Bridges

Crystal Bridges, the Walton Family Foundation's fine art museum located in Bentonville, Arkansas, is looking for a full-time graphic designer. Qualifications include:

-Bachelors degree in graphic design or related field

-expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite

-minimum 4 years experience in graphic design field
