AIGA leadership nominations
Calling for peer- or self- nominations for AIGA student officer positions for Fall 2008. Eligible students have an active AIGA membership.
Submit nominations or self-nominations to Jamie via email by Monday 5/5. As was done last year, the faculty adviser (me) will appoint the position from this pool.
List the following:
• Student name
• A few words why
• Desired position
Communications: In charge of studio communication and promotion of student group events, as well as the internal promotion of local AIGA events. Produces and/or oversees the production of promotional materials (such as posters, email communications, blog, etc).
Programming: Proposes events as well as coordinates and helps facilitate events and activities proposed by and for student members. Past events include but are not limited to: studio tours, knowledge shares, speakers, contests, trips.
Membership: Promotes AIGA membership across all studios. Oversees membership, renewal and specifically generating new members in the incoming sophomore class. Also, helps coordinate volunteers for school based or local chapter programming events.

Logo Design & Naming Competition
The Kansas City, Mo. Citywide Trails Plan project team is challenging the creative minds of Kansas City to a trails logo and naming competition. The winning logo and name may appear on trail signage, trail promotional materials and mile markers and serve as the new brand for Kansas City's trail system. First prize is a Gary Fisher hybrid bike donated by Cycle City of Kansas City, MO.

Internship Opportunity for a Graphic Designer with Eisterhold Associates.
Eisterhold Associates is an Exhibit Design and Planning firm in Kansas City that specializes in museum and exhibition design. We have designed several world-class museums across the country, including: The Rosa Parks Museum in Montgomery, AL; The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN; and the Jurassic Park Discovery Center in Orlando, FL.
We are currently seeking a Graphic Design intern to help with the final production phase of several current projects. Interns will be exposed to the design, fabrication, and installation stages of large, unique projects, assisting where needed.
Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator are a must.

T-Shirt Design Content to a Close
Finally! The first ever AIGA t-shirt design competition is in its final stages. The employees of the art store have actually chosen two designs from the finals.
In first place:
Designer: Tina Gordzica!
Tina's shirt will hit the shelves at the beginning on the next school year!
In second place:
Designer: Lindsey Southwood!
Lindsey's patterning will actually be reformatted to fit new aprons that the art store will be selling!
These two lucky individuals have also received gift cards from the art store!
Everyone give them a pat on the back for helping bring design to the rest of the student body!

those of you who went on the chicago trip had the priviledge of visiting gravity tank, our new favorite research-based design studios. they have a very collaborative working environment, teaming ethnographers/analysts with graphic and industrial designers. well, they're looking for a summer intern! check the job board outside the faculty offices for more details. also, ask mister takach about his experiences there last summer.

Jamie & Tyler Present in Boston
Both Jamie and Tyler represented KCAI recently at the AIGA's massaging media2 education conference in Boston. Jamie presented her very intuitive tools for trolling through, sorting and displaying digital "collections" in multimedia and Tyler presented his ideas for a web-based teaching tool that demonstrates the persuasive qualities of time-based media.

Check the side bar on this blog to see a must bookmark list of links to online job boards. These sites are commonly used in the industry to post and seek jobs, interships and freelance. Will be good to keep your eye on these as you start your searches. A few of these have great portfolio features that you can easily take advantage of.

Adobe Design Achievement Awards
The 2008 Adobe Design Achievement Awards gives higher education students from around the world the creative license to propel their careers in the future.
I saw Adobe promote this over the weekend. It looks like an amazing opportunity and worth considering.
There are a range of categories and cash prices, plus the experience of going to NY to participate in the awards with the other winners.
Submissions close May 2, 2008.
