AIGA: A6 Awards Gala 9-18-10

Free food, open bar, ice cream, great dj, awards, professionals, students, and some of the most awesome design work ever–that pretty much sums up this years flavor of the A6 Awards Gala that happened on Saturday September 18th. If you didn't make it this year, you should really try to make it next year for sure! We all had a great time despite the rain. It was a great chance to mingle with professionals (from Hallmark and Willoughby to name a few of the design firms in attendance) and a few kids from other schools in the KC area. Not to mention the fact that it was a great way to show support for your fellow classmates that were recognized this year! Congrats again to Andrea Morris, Luke Babb and Micah Barta!

Collaborative Consumption Essay

This is a great essay and video (posted on Swissmiss) to promote a new book on the era of "Collaborative Consumption". It should be of particular interest for the design seniors in multimedia experience studio and visual advocacy studio.

Jamie to present at the next AIGA Design Educator's Conference

Jamie has been invited to be a co-author for the session Designing for Experience: Settings and Behaviors at New Contexts/New Practices, the AIGA design educator's conference. Session provocateur is David Small, the moderator is Andrew Blauvelt, and the writer is Andrea Codrington. She will be in good company!

A little preview from Jamie's abstract:
"DESIGNING FOR EXPERIENCE:
Due to technological saturation and accessibility, the design practice has shifted towards more complex systems of integrated and multiple-media channels. Everything from the semantic web, participatory culture and mobile devices are transforming the way commerce and cultural institutions construct and deliver experiences."

Something to get you excited (and maybe a little emotional) about the wide open future of design + technology. The Wilderness Downtown. View with Google chrome or safari.

Marty writes for Parse

Parse is a new online magazine brought to you by the people at HOW and AIGA.

It a blog-like publication that "aims to make sense of issues and information relevant to design practitioners, regardless of the disciplines they work in".

Our very own Assistant Professor Marty Lane is a ongoing contributor. You can read her first article here, titled Exploring interface possibilities (with marshmallows).
