User Experience Developer Internships at Garmin

Position Summary:
Learn to apply fundamental usability and user centered design principles to objectify and guide the design process, while also increasing development proficiency in a variety of common web technologies.  This position will work closely with designers, developers, copywriters and business stakeholders to define the best user experience.  The UX team is part of the company's Marketing Communications department and works in a creative environment, much like an in-house advertising agency.

Essential Functions
-Learn to produce UX deliverables such as wireframes, user flows, site maps and interactive prototypes
-Learn to apply user feedback to guide and enhance UX design concepts
-Learn to develop scalable, reusable, innovative front-end solutions for Garmin’s suite of Internet applications
-Learn to collaborate with project team members and business stakeholders, while supporting multiple simultaneous projects

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
-Completed coursework in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human Factors, or a degree with an equivalent curriculum.
-Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
-Online portfolio demonstrating a strong visual design, interaction design and front-end development proficiency
-Demonstrated proficiency designing in both Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
-Demonstrated experience developing within HTML5 and CSS3 specifications
-Proficient developing semantic markup and front-end code that is cross-browser compatible
-Demonstrated experience simultaneously supporting multiple projects of varying complexity
-Must possess good organization, creative and analytical skills
-Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and demonstrate the ability to work well with others in a highly collaborative environment
-Must be flexible and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision

Desirable Qualifications:
-Proficient using Axure or other common rapid prototyping tools
-Experience developing JavaScript, both with and without frameworks
-Experience with dynamic, template-driven or MVC applications (PHP, JavaScript, etc.)
-Experience developing web services and manipulating data in JSON and XML format
-Familiarity with Expression Engine or similar content management systems
